Since Bay's ancestral home is an amalgam of several antebellum houses in the Beaufort County area, there is no photograph. This is the image a graphic artist created for me based on photos and on drawings made by a student of architecture who used to be my neighbor. It's typical of the Lowcountry houses that survived the War of the Northern Aggression. Several of them are on the National Register of Historic Places and have been lovingly restored and preserved. Like Savannah, Beaufort was spared the devastation wreaked on many other Confederate towns toward the end of the conflict.
